Joe Perry Aerosmith Goldtone and Super Goldtone Amplifiers You are the music while the music lasts. In creating Goldtone and Super Goldtone amps, Gibson went back to the source of tone, to the “S” amps of the ’50s, and started with true ’50s-style, Class A all-tube technology, with the celebrated 12AX7 preamp tubes and EL84s in the power amp. Then Gibson “Re-evolved” the guitar amplifier, avoiding all the developments in amp design over the last half-century that have compromised tone. As a result Goldtones and Super Goldtones are stronger than the originals, with a more powerful sound but with no alteration to that pure, fundamental quality – the guitar amplifier’s reason for being – tone. What do you get back from your amp? Goldtone amps simply have more to give than other amps. With class A cathode bias, Goldtones have the widest possible signal swing before the tubes are driven to cut-off or saturation. Custom tube guitar amplifiers

Swart Amplifier Co was founded on a simple principle:Everything revolves around great Tone. Where there is great tone, there are VALVES; no solid state devices need apply. Rectification is by valve, not harsh sounding solid-state diodes. Finally, there is something that equals the heyday of valve amplifiers, with quality point to point wired circuits using excellent iron and parts that don’t leech the harmonics from the stream. Swart Amplifier Co brings harmonic richness and warmth, rendering solid state amplification sterile. Employing custom modifications of classic circuits featuring point to point wiring, Class A bias, tube rectification, and PP & Single-Ended output, we aim to bring great tone to the forefront again. Swart Amplifiers: Hand built to last a lifetime – Modern Day Classics.

What Are the Actual Most Popular Boutique Amp Brands?

The days when just a handful of amp makers dominated the market – and a search for a new amp might start with Fender and stop with Marshall – ended decades ago. The steady march of masterful makers entering the boutique scene continues unabated, making today arguably the “Golden age” of amp design and production. Nowadays, the high-end amp market is flooded with hundreds of brands to explore, each with their own lineup of core models and countless power and speaker configurations. While we can’t offer a quantitative answer for which is going to sound the best, we can deduce which brands garner the most sales and rank as the most popular in the boutique amp scene. Here’s the breakdown of best-selling boutique amp brands by total number of sales on Reverb. As you can see above, Dr. Z easily claims the top spot as the most popular boutique amp brand on Reverb. Another useful analog for the popularity of a particular amp brand is how long it takes for their amps to sell on the used market. Though not the most dominant players across the board, these fast-selling amp brands tend to rely on word-of-mouth buzz and fierce communities of fans. Unlike the first set of charts above, where a wide array of products drives sales and market share, these makers tend to focus on very specific amp designs with extremely low production numbers. Dumbles like the Overdrive Special are the Les Paul “Bursts” of the amp market. Mesa/Boogie is often pointed to as the original boutique amp brand, but has grown enough in the four decades since its launch to no longer really carry the designation. Very few “Boutique” amp brands label themselves as such, and most of the builders behind these numbers are instead focused on doing what they do best: designing and building some of the best tube guitar amplifiers ever devised. The competitive nature of today’s market means that most extant amp brands really do offer amazing products by any standard. Visiting an amp show or an indie guitar shop with a decent amp section is like making a choice at an Italian gelato stand.

Boutique Guitar Pictures

I’ve waited awhile for my Stang, and I can’t say I’d wait a year or so for it! I’d havge to find one in a store. I might consider waiting forever if a guitar was being made EXACTLY FOR ME- custom everything! I’d probably just build a partscaster and customize it that way…. You guys who can wait so long for a guitar are obviously much more patient and mature than I am! Post by S.F. franky on Well, the wait was listed at 18 months when I first ordered it. To my eye she’s classy without being too flashy. A nice, soft, hand rubbed glow rather than a super shiny “Wet” look. So he really does not push the guitar sales and now he tells everyone it’ll be over 2 years right up front. A friend of ine who has many, many guitars said it almost sounds too nice to be a strat. Post by Curt on Very Nice, I read on his site a year or so back that it was at least 2 years so I moved on in my quest. I custom ordered one guitar, a ’63 Strat copy from GVCG, the wait was not bad, seems 4 months or so, very nice fiddle but if I had played it in a store I would not have bought it, sold it off and learned my leason. FOR ME I must play the actual guitar before I buy, too many variables and I will not order a made to order guitar again. Too much anticipation = too much room for disapointment.

Guitar Amplifiers

The overdriven sound of a valve power amplifier is highly desirable, with many different output stage designs to produce the variety of trademark sounds heard on modern recordings. At really high overdrive the sound becomes quite dirty, with bass in particular sounding flabby. For most of us, we can use a wide range of effective stomp boxes for our overdrive and distortion sounds. There is much history on the attempts to recreate the desirable overdrive sounds with various non-linear preamplifier designs. The ability to retain timbreDifferent guitar pickup combinations produce recognisable signature sounds of the instrument used. Players will also want to use the overdrive sound for single note solo work, and be able to turn down their guitar volume to clean up the sound for chord work. The overdrive circuit itself adds higher frequency components to the sound simply because the overdrive circuit is non-linear. These must be cut to preserve some tone similarity with the unprocessed sound, and to also remove unwanted high frequency components. In talking about some classic overdrive pedals I think I can add some value by giving you my impressions of how these pedals sound to me. The green Ibanez box is a very smooth sounding pedal that retains the guitar timbre well, and for that reason works well with single coil guitars. Marshall Pedals: Blues Breaker, Drive Master & Shred MasterThese three pedals were released in the early 90’s, and use different clipping and tone shaping techniques to deliver different sounds. It’s therefore a very subtle pedal, with warm sounds at low to medium overdrive, but can sound a little fuzzy at high gain.

Guytronix Low Watt DIY Guitar Tube Amplifier Kits

Guytronix Amp Kits contain only the highest quality parts. Ok, some might say that a tube amp kit is not 100% “DIY.” If you are an advanced builder, you could certainly source parts and build an amp based on a schematic alone. With Guytronix you get amps that have been designed by a professional, and we provide support throughout the entire build. We’re not here to put down Solid State amplifiers, we just happen to prefer the way a guitar sounds through a tube amp. Huh? Let’s pretend for a moment that we have two nearly identical guitar amplifiers side by side, one solid state, one tube. What about everything between fully clean to fully distorted? The difference in the way that a tube amplifier responds to being ‘pushed’ yields an incredible spectrum of sounds that are in-between fully clean and fully distorted. It’s here “In the middle” – where another 98% of tones exist – that a solid state amp cannot replicate the sound and feel of a tube amp. Tube amplifiers feel differently than solid state amps, because they respond to the softness or aggression of your picking, as well as your guitar’s volume control. We just flat out prefer tube amps here, and we know we’re not alone. Tube amps come alive when they are nearly or fully cranked. Modeling amps attempt to digitally emulate the sound of tube amplifiers. Hmm. Why would they want to emulate the sound of a tube amp? Because tube amps sound awesome.

High Quality Vintage Hand-Made Valve Amplifiers and Pedals + Components and Amp Repairs

Here at Volt Amp Co we are passionate about producing hand wired supreme quality amplifiers for the guitarist with an ear for big tone. Geoff Pugh has been working with valve amplifiers for over thirty years, servicing, repairing and moding from the late 70s to the present day. 7 years ago the first of the Volt amplifiers were made to satisfy customers that were looking for a vintage sounding amplifier, hand crafted, but available at an affordable price. At that time there were numerous amp builders to choose from in the US but alas, very few here in the U.K. The fist models available were the Vintage 45 head and combo, followed by a simple one channel 18 watt combo. Beginning about two and a half years ago Geoff began working with local guitarist Rob Rolph to develop an amplifier that would produce a super-sweet singing guitar sound. Specifically, an amplifier carefully voiced to deliver tones reminiscent of the greats Larry Carlton and Robben Ford. During his 14 years in Nearly Dan, Rob had tried and used many different combinations of boutique branded equipment but had never found the complex subtlety of tone he was looking for. After 18 months of intense testing/adjusting and re-testing we eventually arrived at the Over-drive Super RR or ODV S-RR. Rob has said for him we had absolutely nailed that Tone which you can hear in the video clips. The process of building the Over-drive Super opened the door-way to produce amplifiers with a spectrum of tone and overdrive Geoff had not experienced before. This provided a platform for the start of a great range of amplifiers that will expand model by model. Each amplifier will be meticulously built and tested, then burned in over many hours and re-tested before final setup to ensure a quality, durability and tone fit to last a life time.

Pedal Steel Guitar Products

Steel players fortunate enough to own a Webb Steel Guitar Amp have acknowledged during the past 25 years that it is the finest performing amplifier for our instrument. Most were sold before they were built, and it is difficult to find a used one for sale, with many players trying to obtain a second one! These players recognize that no other amplifier projects the steel guitar sound better than the Webb. With 225 watts of power, the most distant listener can hear the steel guitar with clarity in any setting. One should never stand still if options exist for enhancing the good sound that is already there. The more you close the ports, the more powerful and directional the sound and with more punch! The ability to shape your sound via front and back ports allows complete personalization of your sound. The sound? Some evaluators say they like the sound of the Eminence Kappalite with the neodymium magnet better than the JBL. Most can’t tell the difference. What about volume? The Webb now has an “Honest” volume control. Many amps use linear pots for the volume control, which provide the illusion of more power by delivering more sound earlier as you turn the dial. The linear volume pot in the Webb has been replaced with an audio pot. More about volume: In addition to high and low input jacks, the Webb offers a “Pickup Sensitivity” control knob that controls the strength of the signal coming from your guitar’s pickup and providing even more sound control and “Head room”. Combined with the power of the Webb, this feature makes for incredible sustain. The tone? The three-position tone switch is renowned for providing the clarity of the three distinctly different textures: the tube-amp sound, the solid state-amp sound, and the hybrid-amp sound.

Blues Harp Amps, Harmonica Amplifiers

Have any harp players not played through tube amps? Man, Michael, you need to dig into this realm and experience “Tube Tone”. Little Walter is pretty much regarded as the the guy who took the amplified harp to a new level by saturating the tone with an overdriven tube amp, this was the early ’50s. He also incorporated a tape echo to really give his sound some depth. Blues harp master Richard Hunter’s web site – Includes GEAR info. How to Get a Chicago-Style Sound Through a PA for blues harp. A: A small vintage tweed or Blackface Fender or Gibson amplifiers seem to be the rage among blues harpers since their simple design and low power allow them to be turned up to a level high enough to obtain the dirty sound associated with harmonica distortion.
