Football Match Report

Ryan Sessegnon scored his 15th goal of the season as Fulham moved into second place in the Championship with a 3-0 victory at playoff-chasing Millwall. The 17-year-old, recently voted Championship player of the season, reacted first to a Jordan Archer fumble to consign Millwall to their first league defeat since New Year’s Day. Kevin McDonald doubled the visitors’ lead with a sensational long-range strike before Aleksandar Mitrovic’s effort late on moved Fulham two points clear of Cardiff, who have two games in hand. The defeat keeps Millwall in sixth place, a point clear of Derby, who face play-off rivals Middlesbrough on Saturday. Millwall looked to assert themselves early on and almost had their reward after three minutes but Jake Cooper’s free header at the back post cannoned off the crossbar.

The Lions thought they had the opening goal after 15 minutes when Jed Wallace headed down for George Saville to rifle home from close range but referee Andre Marriner adjudged Wallace had fouled defender Matt Targett. It took 23 minutes for Fulham to finally come into the game and it was Sessegnon who was causing all the problems. Neil Harris’ team were looking to cement their place in the top six and should have been in front in the 29th minute when Marcus Bettinelli pushed Ben Marshall’s cross straight into the path of Wallace but the midfielder’s effort was cleared off the line by Tim Ream. Targett has scored once since arriving at Fulham on loan from Southampton in January and almost doubled his tally as his long-range effort clipped the bar. Fulham needed a spark and they got it 45 seconds into the second half as Archer fumbled a long-range effort from Mitrovic into the path of Sessegnon who had the pace and the composure to thunder the ball underneath the goalkeeper.

Stefan Johansen almost doubled the lead two minutes later but the Norway international scuffed his effort wide after going through one-on-one with Archer. Mitrovic netted a third a minute from time as a driving run from substitute Tomas Kalas found the striker on the edge of the box and the Serbian smashed the ball home.

Global air growth slows markedly in March; end of restock cycle to blame – CSCMP’s Supply Chain Quarterly

Demand slows to pace not seen in nearly two years, IATA says. After a long string of gains that reminded industry veterans of the halcyon days of the 1990s, when seemingly every ton of goods went on a plane, international air freight demand hit a wall in March, slowing to a pace not seen in nearly two years due to the end of a strong cycle of inventory restocking, the International Air Transport Association said yesterday. The leading global airline trade group said that freight ton-kilometers, defined as one ton of freight flown one kilometer, rose 1.7 percent in March compared to the same period in 2017. Freight capacity year over year gained 4.4 percent in March, IATA said. Though capacity in March grew at a slower pace than in the prior month, it still represented the first time in 20 months that capacity exceeded demand, IATA said.

One of the hallmarks of the current expansion cycle is that airlines have been able to keep control of their capacity in spite of significant demand growth. IATA has forecast that freight demand would slow once the current restocking cycle runs its course. Over the past 12-18 months, businesses rapidly increased their inventories to meet unusually strong end demand. IATA also reported a slowing in global trade activity, whose strength in recent months had pundits talking about a synchronized worldwide economic recovery. Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s director general and CEO, said the group expects demand in 2018 to increase by 4 to 5 percent.

Growth in the Asia-Pacific region, the largest in terms of global freight share, barely budged in March, up 0.7 percent from 2017 levels. Latin America represents 2.7 percent of the global market.

Minute 45 Review

Minute’s 45 amplifier comes from SAC Thailand, a small boutique audio manufacturer based in Thailand, famous for making world-class output transformers and transformer based volume controls. The Minute 45 is a custom build amp based on the Minute 300B, so you’re not going to find it listed in SAC’s website. If you wish to, SAC can build you an amplifier that will accommodate both the 45 and the 300B tube, but according to them, best sound is achieved when you dedicate the design solely to one tube type, so this build is strictly a 45 tube amplifier. Along with the standard 1/4″ TRS out, the Minute also comes with 4-pin XLRs for the AKG K1000 and speaker taps at the back with a power rating of 1.5Watts at 16 Ohms. Comparing the Minute 45 to the Woo Audio WA5 side by side reveals that the two doesn’t sound anything remotely similar. The Minute is very mellow, mid-centric, analog, very slow-paced, and absolutely romantic sounding. The WA5 and the Minute 45 are absolutely opposites when it comes to their sound. I found that the difference in sound signature, the dynamic Woo versus the mellow Minute, the clean black background Woo versus the analog grainy Minute ultimately determines which amp would be best for someone looking for a high end tube amp. On the other hand, for singers like Norah Jones, Corrine Bailey Rae, or Tracy Chapman, the Minute 45 is the more fitting amp as mellow presentation fits very well the character of the vocals. On the other hand, the Minute is about ambiance, the feel on the venue where the recording was taken, and the sound of the air combined with the grain in the master tape. Some people may prefer the black background soundscape of the Woo, but the Minute has the better depth, layering, and ambiance. The Woo for a clear dynamic voice, and the Minute for a warm and analog sound.

boutique pedals – Pro Tone Pedals

Problem is- their average bar is $7, even at that price I gladly buy 3 or 4 at a time because I know that I’m getting is something special. Something made from the best ingredients by a guy in my neighborhood that has a passion for what he does and a funky aesthetic and at the end of the day the flavors are perfect- FOR ME. Its not dumbed down to lowest common denominator. I recently picked up an older American Amp Maker X tube combo amp. Its got a great clean channel, but the distortion side wasn’t even a good Hershey’s bar clone. Given the era of the amp I don’t think I have much room to complain. The amp was designed and built in an era not known for ground breaking tone. In an effort to appeal to as large an audience as possible, American Amp Maker X released something that, by today’s standards, is almost unusable. The same way Hershey’s bars are inedible by the standards set by Sweeteeth Chocolate. When you design something with the intention of producing 100,000 of them- you want to sell all 100,000. I guess what it boils down to is this: To get your own voice- expect to do/buy/make/invent something that isn’t mass produced. The vast majority of retailers, and boutique manufacturers for that matter, offer great return policies on the gear they sell. To make that investment even easier Pro Tone Pedals is bringing back payment installments! In 2010 Pro Tone made history by being the 1st boutique pedal manufacturer to offer payment installments and we’re bringing em back! We’ll break your payments into 3 equal installments- the 1st payment gets your order into our build queue, the 2nd payment ships it out, and the 3rd will come after you’ve been rocking your new gear for a while.
