1067 E Montague Ave, Charleston, SC

The chips were topped with cheese, black beans, salsa and jalapeños; We added grilled chicken for an extra $2. The taste and the price was that of typical Nachos, however some tortillas were burned. The quesadilla contains sautéed onions, steak and “Fresh jalapeños”, the lunch special is served with a side of tortilla chips, salsa and sour cream. My first impression was that they provided me with a pretty good amount of food considering it was a lunch special. After tasting the quesadillas I felt they were ok, they state that they use fresh ingredients on their site, perhaps they do but I would have expected bolder flavors, instead it was somewhat bland, but the tortilla chips were REALLY good, I could not stop eating them. Fun atmosphere, good food! Corn chips and a fun variety of salsas to choose. It’s a fantastic place for a happy hour meetup! The triple dipper is really good and I’ve never had anything less than great customer service. We love good Mexican, coming from the southwest, and are always excited at the chance for good tacos. Our taco and burrito meals were pretty good, though. We love this place, it’s our new regular spot! Salsa choices are great! The burrito is “Slap your grandma” good. I’ve heard good things from several people so maybe this was an off night. We made it in time for happy hour and got the mason jar margarita special for $6 – good deal on a big ol’ margarita but it was kind of bland and also melted fast in the heat – ended up tasting like sugar water. I’m pretty sure the guacamole is from a container – not good. The few times that I have been the service has been friendly but slow and forgetful( waited a good while for drinks even though it wasn’t busy and I was seated at the bar…). I will keep giving it a shot because the food and drinks are so good. My boyfriend got the mo Burrito that he said was very good and very filling.

The name on your tickets must match the name on your passport, and since changing the name on your passport requires a marriage certificate and a wait of about three weeks, you probably won’t have a chance to make the update before you leave for your honeymoon. Writing out thank-you notes by hand can wait until you’re back from the honeymoon, but not much longer so make a note to yourself to get on it right when you’re back. In the meantime, post a mass thank you to your wedding guests on your Facebook page. Guests will appreciate a sort of ‘wrap-up’ to your wedding. Assuming you plan to keep your wedding dress in some way or another, it’s important to get it cleaned by a wedding dress specialists as soon as possible. If you plan to freeze the top tier of your wedding cake, make sure to move it from the fridge to the freezer before you leave. If you wait to return rented suits or tuxedos until you return from your honeymoon, you’re likely to rack up some extra fees. Don’t leave any presents at your wedding venue or anywhere else guests could have dropped them off. If you’re not going home after the wedding, ask your parents if they’ll take them until you get back from your honeymoon. This may seem a little trite compared to the other items on the list, but your hands are going to be getting a lot of play in honeymoon photos. Your wedding mani/pedi will probably get a little worn on the big day, so a refresh can’t hurt. For your honeymoon, pick a light natural or clear color that will grow out well and match everything. Don’t wait until after your wedding to pack-you’ll be way too tired/excited/emotional/any other possible feeling. You do not want to get sick on your honeymoon and staying healthy on vacation starts with healthy habits at home. Eat right and stay fit in the days, weeks and months leading up to your honeymoon.

A Southern Lifestyle Blog crowell + co interiors

Last year, we bought our home and did a massive overhaul on the interior. Seeing as how it will take ten years for said English Garden to actually mature, in the meantime I thought I would share some of the gardens that I aspire to have one day. Lost Dog Cafe is also such a great breakfast spot!Folly Beach is a very eclectic community that reminded me of some of the funkier beach towns of Southern California. We spent two days on the beach and due to bad weather, two days wandering around the city with the girls. Children are terrible, impatient shoppers and after the second cocktail, people start judging. Within 10 minutes, we turned to each other and agreed we were coming back as soon as possible sans children so we could do all the fun grown up stuff. On the carriage tour, we passed the Civil War era city jail which our children subsequently became OBSESSED with. At one point the tour guide asked if anyone had any questions and our seven year old’s hand shot up. The food in Charleston was amazing! Everyone told us to go to The Ordinary and we ended up having to cancel two separate reservations due to either exhausted children or meltdowns, both the child and adult varieties. In any event, The Ordinary is definitely top of the list when we go back, sans children. My husband took this picture of our seven year old pondering the end of life as she stands before a fallen tree. 1500 years old and 65 feet tall, it was so beautiful. Within 10 minutes of arriving, my husband had convinced our 9 year old to attend SCAD and had selected the square where we will be purchasing our retirement home. Over the years they have been buying up historic buildings throughout the city and and using them for housing, classrooms etc. Some ladies Google image Channing Tatum shirtless, I Google search “Cheryl and Griff Day.” I have cooked my way through their cook book and did a blog posts on their best ever chocolate cake.

Columbia SC project to bring homes, restaurants, stores, more

A 70-acre development with homes, stores, restaurants, parks and more is being planned for North Main Street, potentially becoming a catalyst for economic growth in north Columbia, city leaders say. All those components depend on market demand as the development is built out over several years. City leaders believe the North Main corridor is ripe for these things. “It’s our turn,” said Cecil Hannibal, director of the city’s Eau Claire Development Corporation, which guides and encourages development in north Columbia. The corporation is helping a private developer, WAT Properties, move the Azurest project forward. Details of the project are contained in documents filed with the city. The project will be officially announced at 9:30 Thursday morning at the Greenview Plaza parking lot at 6820 N. Main St. The planned elements of Azurest are a reflection of what members of the surrounding community have asked for, said Willie Tompkins, owner of WAT Properties. “It’s important to get the right mix, what the community wants, what it’s lacking and asking for. … We want businesses that will actually enhance the community.” The Azurest development is a continuation of “All the development and investments we’re doing in north Columbia and throughout the city, for that matter,” said City Councilman Sam Davis, who represents the north Columbia area. He, Hannibal and Tompkins expect it could be a catalyst for more economic development in the area. Seventy acres of development is big for any part of Columbia. By comparison, the large CanalSide apartment community in downtown Columbia, beside the Columbia Canal, is about 20 acres. North Columbia has the advantage of space to develop plus the benefit of tens of thousands of cars that daily travel I-20, which offers prime access to the Azurest site, Hannibal noted. At this point, the development is being financed entirely by private funds, Tompkins said. He declined to provide an estimated cost of the development but said it would “Create literally hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars of investment.”

Cheap hotels in Charleston, SC from $76

For Charleston beaches, visitors have several small barrier islands to choose from, but the best cheap waterfront hotels are on Folly Beach. The Holliday Inn of Folly Beach* features either a microwave and fridge or full kitchen in every room, so guests can minimize their dining bills by preparing food themselves. The Charleston Historic District offers a step back in time to simpler days, and budget lodging is plentiful. The Hampton Inn Charleston-Historic District is located next to the Charleston Museum, which enjoys the distinction of being the oldest museum in the country. The NotSo Hostel downtown offers a lower-cost alternative to even the cheapest motels in Charleston. Dorm rooms are about one-third of what visitors will pay for a hotel in the area, and private rooms are still notably cheaoer than most other options. The hostel’s main location includes dorms, private rooms, and camping areas. The Annex location is exclusively private rooms with a few private bathrooms, as well. Prices for a single room in a private home vary widely, from cheap options in the same range as a private hostel room, to rates that are on par with luxury hotels in the area. The Charleston International Airport services six airlines, and convenient shuttles and taxis are available from 5 a.m. until 30 minutes after the last flight of the day, typically around 12:30 a.m. Travelers who don’t want to hustle should avoid this last red-eye. There are several cheap hotels in Charleston SC near the airport. The Radisson Charleston Airport* features microwaves and refrigerators in the room so guests can enjoy cheap and convenient snacks. The trolley is completely free to ride, and includes stops at all of Charleston’s highlights including the Waterfront Park, South Carolina Aquarium, and King Street. From March to May and September to November, highs range from the upper 60s to low 80s with lows in the upper 40s to low 60s. Unfortunately, most travelers agree that this weather is ideal, and hotels fill up quickly for premium prices. For low hotel rates, winter is the best time to visit Charleston.

20 Scrumptious Bakeries In South Carolina

One of the things that comes to mind when people think of South Carolina is food! The reason, you ask? It’s because we do it everyday and we do it well. They are so goodyou DREAM of eating it again! Here is a list of 20 bakeries that will make you run out and grab some of your own. All of the cupcakes are made from scratch, it is a locally owned and operated store, and best of all? Well, you get to customize your cupcake to your preference. They also serve cupcake milkshakes! I know! I haven’t heard of these anywhere else in the state. They have such flavors as Hummingbird, Salted Caramel, and Family Reunion among many other kinds! You can also find them in McLeod’s Hospital and Celebration Blvd. This is one amazing place! You may have seen them on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and Rewrapped. They have luscious cupcakes -try the Raspberry- and they make a Chai Milkshake which can absolutely make your world go off-kilter and you will never think of a milkshake the same way again. LaDolce is making some of the most amazing and fantastical creations! I’m in love with the bird egg cupcakes myself. You may have heard of them since they were on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. One word…Art! Well, maybe two words: Art and delicious! I’ve seen many roses on top of cupcakes before, but nothing like this. I guess you can say that food is part visual and part taste because I can’t help but look at these beautiful cupcakes that the Chocolate Moose has. The Best Hollow Body Guitar Brands

Here are the best hollow body guitars that will be sure to catch your attention with their classic looks and their acclaimed warm and clean tones. Hollow body guitars, also called semi-acoustic, are not to be confused with acoustic-electric guitars. These electric guitars are designed with a single hollow cavity within the body. Although mostly associated with jazz music, hollow body guitars have left their mark on all styles of music including country, pop, rockabilly and even hard rock. The most popular of which is the Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins model, which is arguably the best hollow body guitar. The Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins hollow body guitar has a street price of about $2.5k. The stylish Gretsch G6136T White Falcon is tagged with a street price of about $3.5k. There are other mid priced Gretsch hollow body guitars for budget conscious musicians. In 1936, Gibson’s first attempt to make production line electric guitars resulted in the first ever hollow body guitar with a pickup attachment, the ES-150. Its florentine cutaway, P-90 pickups, gorgeous looks is more than enough reason for many to want to own this iconic hollow body guitar. Epiphone, a sub company of Gibson also made waves among hollow body guitar enthusiasts with the Epiphone Casino. Some tend to classify the Rickenbacker 330 as a semi-hollow, but according to Rickenbacker themselves, the 300 series are hollow body guitars. The strength of Ibanez lies mostly with the quality of their artist endorsers, which for their hollow body guitars include John Scofield, Pat Metheny and George Benson. They offer various models that borrow from classic hollow body guitar shapes but to keep their products budget friendly, they employ affordable materials and production techniques. Ibanez is one of the first to provide quality hollow body guitars at affordable prices. Aside from these top brands, other guitar manufacturers also offer hollow body designs. It is important to note that some guitar players go to small scale guitar luthiers and would testify that these small scale manufacturers build the best hollow body guitars in terms of tone and quality.

Brad Paisley

Brad Douglas Paisley is an American country music singer and songwriter. He is the only child of Douglas Edward “Doug” Paisley, who worked for the West Virginia Department of Transportation, and Sandra Jean “Sandy” Paisley, a teacher. He later recalled that, “Pretty soon, I was performing at every Christmas party and Mother’s Day event. The neat thing about a small town is that when you want to be an artist, by golly, they’ll make you one.” At age 13, he wrote his first song, “Born on Christmas Day”, which later appeared on his album Brad Paisley Christmas. By 13, Goddard and Paisley formed a band called “Brad Paisley and the C-Notes”, with the addition of two of Paisley’s adult friends. In March 2008, Paisley announced his next tour, The Paisley Party, a 42-date tour sponsored by Hershey’s. On March 22, 2011, Paisley’s website announced a new beta game titled Brad Paisley World. On September 21, 2011, Mailboat Records released Mark Twain: Words & Music, a double-CD telling Mark Twain’s life in spoken word and song, including a new song by Paisley titled “Huck Finn Blues”. On October 19, 2011, Paisley made a voice cameo as various background characters in the South Park episode “Bass to Mouth”. On January 14, 2012, Paisley was a guest on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion, during which he did a rendition of “Life’s Railway to Heaven” by Charles Davis Tillman. On April 25, 2012, Paisley was featured on the South Park episode “Cartman Finds Love”, in which he voiced himself, sang the national anthem and helped Cartman sing the 90’s hit song “I Swear”, which was popularized in 1994 by the country musician John Michael Montgomery and the pop group All-4-One. Paisley extended his Virtual Reality World Tour through mid-2012. On June 12, 2013, Paisley announced on his Twitter page that he would join the Rolling Stones onstage during the band’s concert in Philadelphia. Paisley sings about how he finds himself “Caught between Southern pride and Southern blame”: Paisley explained he’s proud of where he’s from, but he’s ashamed of themes such as slavery and racism. In 2010, Paisley and Wampler Pedals released the Brad Paisley signature Paisley Drive, a guitar overdrive pedal designed to his specifications. Brad Paisley guest stars on ‘South Park’ tonight.

2010 Etc. Category: Overall Winner

“It was like a small guitar, a really, really small guitar, and when I woke up the next day the dream just hung with me. So I decided to look into small guitars, and I hit on ukuleles. I now love ukuleles.” Within days of his epiphany, Lichty had bought a ukulele and was learning to play it. He was taking luthiers’ workshops around the Southeast, learning to build guitars and other stringed instruments from some of the region’s masters. Since studying with Henderson, Lichty has never looked back. In the last fifteen months, he’s built twenty-five guitars and a handful of ukuleles, only a few of which still reside beneath his roof. When you see a Lichty guitar, his commitment to craft is obvious. With their sometimes muted, sometimes bold features, the guitars look like fine art. Four professional musicians use Lichty guitars, and neither Lichty’s production capacity-working out of his shop in Tryon-nor his desire to learn has slowed since he first had The Dream. “It’s funny,” he says, “This feels like what I was supposed to do when I grew up. I still have a lot to learn, but that’s how it is when you try to make something nice and make it by hand. Every instrument you make is its own thing; with each one you learn something. There’s a lot more to making a good guitar than working with wood.” “With my work, I’m striving very hard to give the pieces a handmade quality.” Tapping into the vast catalog of historic maps available online, LaFerrera has created more than two hundred giclee prints, on watercolor paper, of his digital collages. Currently he’s hard at work on a series depicting state birds using state maps. Now, working the press by hand to create everything from custom wedding invitations to coasters made from antique wooden type is all in a day’s work. “For me the meditative quality of letterpress printing works as a counterbalance to the intensity of design,” Farill says. Carr Amplifiers Product guitar amplifiersMade in Pittsboro, NC. Sure, it’s a perk that custom Carr amps have the retro good looks of the Elvis era, but at the end of the day, the crystal-clear sound is what really matters. That’s exactly why Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Fogerty, and Jeff Tweedy of Wilco are all owners of this boutique brand of guitar amplifiers hand made below the Mason-Dixon.

A lingerie store was told to remove ads with disabled and plus-size models. It refused

Shouldn’t a lingerie boutique be able to celebrate the diversity of its customers without controversy? In February, Georgia lingerie boutique Livi Rae Lingerie’s owners Molly Hopkins and Cynthia Decker launched an in-store campaign featuring a diverse array of women, like Tisa Edge, a woman of color; Stacey Shortley, who uses a wheelchair; and plus-size models Marie Layne and Bubble Bordeaux. For a company like Livi Rae, which specializes in inclusive lingerie sizing and is even at the center of the Lifetime TV show Double Divas, about Hopkins and Decker’s quest to revolutionize the lingerie world, the campaign fit right in. It’s not like this was a first for Livi Rae Lingerie. Of course, being a lingerie store, it had posted campaigns in front of its store before, and featured professional models in lingerie. For reasons the owners of Livi Rae are pegging on body shaming, their property manager took offense to this highly inclusive Valentine’s Day campaign, and asked them, for the first time ever, to take their display down. “We did this campaign to promote body positivity and that when you come in here it’s a judgment-free zone,” Hopkins told 11 Alive. According to the store’s owners, the property manager told them the ads were “In bad taste” and that Hopkins and Decker were in violation of their lease, which stated that all advertisements have to be approved ahead of time. In the past seven years that Livi Rae has been in business there, they have never once had to ask for approval for their ads. It’s only this time, when the ads celebrate women of various races and body types and abilities, that the ads are a problem. “In the seven years that we’ve been in this location we’ve never had to have approval for any ad we put up,” Hopkins told 11 Alive. With support from people across the country, Hopkins and Decker stood their ground – and now it’s paid off. On Tuesday, the store announced on its Facebook that their property manager has backed down. “Due to the overwhelming response from our customers and fans, our property manager just called to let us know we can KEEP our window display in tact! They heard you loud and clear,” the store wrote. “As a national company, they said they do not believe in discrimination of any kind and support our ‘Real Bras, Real Women, Real Stories’ campaign and all of the images used on our storefront.”

Since most of our guests were visiting from out of town, we wanted to give them a taste of Charleston. We tried to keep the menu very southern as well, from the grit cakes & fried green tomato appetizers, to the mac & cheese station, southern style green beans, and squash casserole at dinner. A Little Help From Their Friends ~ Aside from our good friend, Megan, who was the wedding planner, my Maid of Honor Kristina Mackie helped with some other graphic designs.

Chef Cindy Wolf’s New Menu Format Takes Dining Experience To A Higher Level

Baltimore, MD, May 20, 2003 With the ongoing drive to bring her cuisine to a higher level, Chef Cindy Wolf introduces two new prix fixe menus at Charleston highlighting her favorite and seasonal dishes. The five and six course tasting menus are fine-tuned daily to incorporate only the freshest and finest ingredients and allow diners to explore Chef Wolfs elaborate execution of her signature cuisine. The two themes will constantly change; currently The Southern Table and My Favorites are the focus of the new menu format. The Southern Table prix fixe menu allows me to draw myself back to the original concept of the restaurant, explains Chef Wolf. Guests will notice typical dishes and ingredients from South Carolina and Louisiana such as Gumbo, Lump Crab & Green Tomato Salad, and Sauteed Fresh Crawfish Tails. Referring to her Favorites prix fixe menu Wolf adds, I focus on my favorite things to eat or make. In Charleston restaurants five-year evolution, Chef Wolf has always included the option of a prix fixe menu, but this is the first time that she has brought this format to the forefront. This format challenges and inspires me, as it involves more steps in the execution, careful pacing, and complicated ingredients. My great team in the kitchen, Wolf adds, is also challenged, as they are forced to produce more courses and more involved dishes. While the restaurant now highlights these multi-course menus, Charleston diners still have the option to choose a la carte dishes. Further enhancing the prix fixe menus is also an optional cheese course featuring a selection of more than two dozen artisanal cheeses presented by the resident Fromager. As Tony Foreman, co-owner and wine director of Charleston Restaurant explains, I have chosen specific wines to interact with the flavors in the dishes. Charleston restaurant opened in November 1997 and features Chef Cindy Wolfs dynamic, soulful menu incorporating regional ingredients, Southern tradition, and classic French technique resulting in a style that is uniquely her own. Charlestons wine collection boasts more than 600 selections of fine wine at a variety of price points – from a rare California boutique Chardonnay and single-vineyard Cote Rotie to excellent purchases from Spain and Argentina. Located in Baltimores Harbor East, Charleston offers four beautifully appointed dining areas with dicor that echoes the tones and patterns of the Carolina coast.

How to Start a Yoga Business

Have you considered starting a yoga business of your own? It takes hard work and dedication, just like the practice of yoga itself. Don’t be fooled by its whimsical exterior – the business of yoga comes equipped with the joys and pitfalls of any other business. Yoga Alliance is the organization that presides over the national standards when it comes to yoga and, although it is not mandatory that a teacher or a school be certified, it is the industry standard. “If someone wants to open up their own studio, they definitely need to, like any other business, look at the working capital. And they’ve got to have a business plan,” says Donna Davidge, a New York City-based yoga practitioner for over 26 years and founder of the yoga retreat center Sewall House in Maine. This option comes with far more responsibilities that include rent and utility expenses, managing staff, and assuring that your place of business adheres to zoning requirements depending on the type of yoga that you’ll be teaching. Before you start your own business, brick and mortar or not, it’s best to work for an established yoga outlet. “Anna Winkler, founder of Shakti Yoga and Living Arts in Maplewood, NJ, has similar yoga offerings.”Hot yoga and Vinyasa yoga are very popular right now because it’s very much like going to the gym. As Winkler mentioned, hot yoga is one of the most popular forms of contemporary yoga. The most popular form of hot yoga is Bikram Yoga, founded by yogi Bikram Choudhury in the early 1970s. Unlike other forms of yoga, the Bikram practice – the specific sequence of poses – is trademarked, and one must go through a formal process in order to teach Bikram and to open a studio dedicated to instructing this specific form of yoga. Raffael Pacitti, owner of the Bikram Yoga Manhattan studios, says that while a franchise agreement is being worked out with the governing body of Bikram Yoga, all studios that teach Bikram are currently classified as affiliates and do not currently pay fees to headquarters. She purchased a house in Maine and paid for its expenses and operational costs by funneling her income from teaching yoga in New York City into the venture until the business became sustainable. How can you set your yoga business apart from other competitors in the market? Take your practice out of the studio and integrate it with a cool activity. She also mentions that many yoga instructors organize retreats by taking groups to exotic locations and practicing yoga onsite. Other unique options may include yoga with pets, AntiGravity yoga, foodie yoga, and prenatal yoga.

Southern Weddings

Carolina bride Sarah Ann shares her monogram-filled wedding at the Merrimon-Wynne House! Today’s wedding holds a special place in my heart because the bride and groom are dear friends of mine! Earlier this year, Sarah Ann and Blake said their “I do’s” in front of their family and friends on the mildest North Carolina July day I can ever remember. While the images are breathtakingly gorgeous and details are both plentiful and personal, I strongly encourage you to not miss a word of Sarah Ann and Blake’s advice to those of y’all who are actively wedding planning. I couldn’t agree more with this sage encouragement, and love how SAT + WBS’s relationship shined through every last detail of their wedding celebration. He gave me a stunning bracelet, and I gave him an N.C. State needlepoint wallet with a note in the postscript, “You’ve earned this gift for wearing Carolina blue today. Thank you from the bottom of my Tar Heel-loving heart.”What was Southern about your wedding? It made our hearts swell when one of our family friends commented that our wedding was the “The epitome of Southern charm.” I hope our guests found Southern charm in our commitment to traditions. I especially loved that our reception cards included lyrics from one of my favorite beach music songs, “Now it’s a drag if you can’t shag, you better learn how to move your feet.” There was also charm in the aesthetic and the look of our wedding. Beyond the tradition and the aesthetic, the hospitality of our loved ones was the most Southern part of our wedding. What was the hardest part about planning your wedding? The first most difficult part of wedding planning was building our guest list. We developed a few ground rules for building the list, including an agreement that neither Blake nor I would be meeting someone for the first time on our wedding day. The next most difficult part was carving out time for wedding planning amidst the whirlwind of life. What advice would you give to someone currently planning a wedding? In reflecting on our wedding, Blake and I would offer these five pieces of advice. Set aside time for just you and your partner on your wedding day. Give as much thoughtfulness to preparing for marriage, as you to do preparing for wedding. Our family and friends were excited to pour into us throughout our engagement season and especially during our wedding weekend. They found creative ways to love us well, preparing wedding day snacks, transporting luggage, and staying late to do a sweep of the venue.
