Whats is the best sounding guitar amp?

I haven’t tried many amps except for some Mesas. It’s hard say what the best amp without trying it. Many people rely on compressed un-mic’d youtube clips, which is ridiculous. Every amp brand out there has a a unique feel which certain players favour over others. A broader suggestion could be American vs European sounds. It all really comes down to what genre you play, and HOW you play. If you are a sloppy player a Mesa Rectifier is a good choice because they are pretty forgiving, rather than a Engl which is pretty dry and tight, so you need a lot of precision while playing.

Sundown A36 80’s era boutique tube guitar amp $300

Not a lot of info out there on this amp, kind of a rarity from the mid-80’s. Sundown was a company started by Dennis Kager, who worked at ampeg in the early 80’s apparently. He is said to still work on these amps out in Jersey. This is a fixer upper boutique amp that needs to go to a home of somebody who digs interesting amps and is willing/able to fix it up or have somebody else fix it up. I think it’s 36 watts but I can’t tell for sure as the amp is in storage, and info on the web about this amp is pretty sparse. The sound for this amp has generated a lot of hatred and a lot of love. The sound on the dirty channel is really dirty in a really strange way, the lows come out ugly. Speaking of settings it’s got some innovations for the time, a governor – an rml switch – all of these give a certain reining in to the sound that the amp requires – one commenter has even said these settings allow for “Control over the full spectrum of sh*t sound” this amp makes. I personally love dirty sounding amps – and I’m not alone – so that’s a pretty spot-on and cool thing to say about it. The amp really just wants to be loud and nasty all the time. This is a good amp for crunchy very ugly rock and dirty drunken blues and not a good amp nor advisable for use in smooth jazz and playing alongside Michael Bolton while a fan blows your and his mullet ever so gently on stage while you do your awesome clean guitar solo. It’s got two relatively unused Russian-type tube amps in it, and has had a servicing about 5 years ago. At this point who knows, you’ll need to have somebody who knows amps give you the scoop. Just understand that I am selling this amp “As is” and am making no claim to its “Off-the-shelf” functionality. It’s a badass amp though, and I really hate to part with it, it belongs with somebody who will fix it up, plug it in, and turn it up loud – or in a museum.

Vintage Guitar Amplifiers

The electric guitar may be the icon of American popular music in the 20th century, but rock ‘n’ roll as we know it today would not have been possible without the amplifier. With the emergence of the now-familiar rock line-up of guitar, bass, drums, and vocals in the 1950s and 1960s, guitarists needed a way to be heard over the noise of their fellow musicians. Clarence Leonidas “Leo” Fender was the first to address this need.

Boutique Amplifiers

Born into a family of scientists and doctors, he applied his natural curiosity to the design principles of tube amplifiers while playing bass and guitar in bands in the Pacific Northwest. Chris began spending his spare time building and tweaking amps in his basement in Seattle, and his passion ultimately led to an apprenticeship at Verellen Amplifiers. While running the shop’s repair and modification operations, Chris sharpened his electrical engineering skills and developed a personal schema of amp design. He constructed, tested, and listened to hundreds of different circuit types from the best in vintage and modern amplifier design. Around that time, Chris began to conceptualize and design his own amps, and he was able to sonically dial in original designs without the need to adhere to historic constraints. Benson Amps builds their amplifiers one at a time, using the highest quality and best sounding components. Their goal is to deliver an heirloom-quality custom amplifier.

Kemper Amp/Noonan T Style Demo for Boutique Guitar Exchange

This is a video demo Mark Dannells did for Tim Noonan Custom Guitars, a new Atlanta based guitar builder now in stock at Boutique Guitar Exchange.

Boutique amplifier

Boutique amplifier is a catch-all descriptor for any type of instrument amplifier that is typically hand built with the intention of being much better than the mass-produced variety offered by large companies. In the majority of cases, this is reflected in the price. Sometimes they are clones of older designs, often with minor improvements or alterations in layout or circuit design; sometimes they are new designs altogether. California company Mesa Boogie can lay claim to being perhaps the earliest boutique amp company: their late 1960s Mark series, based on the ubiquitous Fender Princeton “Study” amp but “Hot-rodded”, quickly established a reputation for tone and volume, and was used by, among others, Carlos Santana. Since the advent of the boutique amp age, larger companies have released reissues of their classic designs, touting their faithfulness to the original sound and the labor-intensive building process. Some common features of boutique amplifiers include point-to-point or turret board construction, heavy-duty chassis, NOS vacuum tubes, and high-end electronic parts and speakers.

H&G Amplification is an manufactory that designs and manufactures music amplifiers, speaker cabinets and boutique guitar effect pedals.

We do not really dealt with bass guitar effects, amplifiers. Here, in this time of change! One of my favorite band The Beatles, inspired a new tube bass preamp creation. The plates can hear great tunes and sounds of the XXI century it is significant. This simple, little preamplifier may be able to create a good bass sound. Yet put a little extra! Whether it is a switch which can give more prominence to the bass sound. Located between the two triode the tone control section. Here we must mention the little extras are what we promise you. It was built in the SW1 signal switch and capacitor C7. This will give even more powerful bass sound. The C8 was originally 100nF, it was replaced with 1uF. Thus, it improved bass response with what is perceptible difference. We conducted a little experiment, was left inside the 100nf and 1uf capacitor, one switch to choose between the two, and thus is connected to the output. So you can compare the two capacitor deep voice transmission. Feel free to experiment with different manufacturers and types of capacitors.

Boutique Amps Versus Big Brand Amps

The Rambler Carr is just one of the many high quality Boutique amps on the market. If you are a bit of a tone freak, you may have had the same inner self issue as other guitarists – should you buy that shiny new big brand amp, like the new Fender Hot Rod III series amp or perhaps you decide to pull the string on a Carr Rambler boutique guitar amplifier. What does your budget look like? Boutique amps are generally going to be more expensive. The main reason for higher prices is that boutique amps are usually made by one electronics wizard in their shop and they only churn out a small number of amps per year. The amount of time and effort usually put into these amps and the attention to detail is greatly superior to the big manufactured brands. Most boutique amps are built around the same specs as a regular amp. Many times, a boutique amp builder will begin with a schematic for a well known and loved amp and tweak it into his own version. The Fender Hot Rod Series of amps offer quality tone at an affordable price. Big brand guitar amps are often mass produced, with not too many built by hand. Often times, there are computers involved in the creation of circuit boards and integrated circuits in some of these amps. If something happens to go wrong with your amp, it may be easier to have it repaired if your amp is not from a boutique shop. Boutique amp problems may not happen too often, but should you have an issue, you might have to send it back to the maker to get the repair done.

Boutique Guitar Amplifiers

The three most important things a guitar player wants from an amp are tone, tone and tone. This is why boutique products are always the better choice. There is nothing quite like that moment when you try out a new boutique amp for the first time: you can see that every detail has been meticulously thought out, and that it has been cared for and loved every step of the way from conception to testing. Designing and building amplifiers can be a simple manufacturing process, or it can be a kind of alchemy, mixing just the right tasteful amount of wood, plastic, metal and glass into a thing of beauty. This is the main difference between the boutique amplifier builder and the standard amplifier manufacturer. Cheaper components, automated manufacturing and thousands of the same product are the result. The boutique amplifier company is another creature entirely. Components are carefully sourced and chosen purely for their effect on the sound of the amplifier: if the more expensive component is the better one to use to get the desired sound, then the more expensive component is the one that is used. With so much attention to detail, careful component sourcing, and hand crafting, boutique amplifiers are often more expensive as a result. When a tube amp is used for extended periods of time, the heat from the tubes and the vibrations from the speakers put the internal components under a huge amount of stress. Cheaper components will not handle this very well and will often break sooner, and with devastating results. The quality of the components means that boutique amps not only sound better than their mass-produced counterparts, but they also last much longer and – thanks to the flexibility of the designers – can be custom made to look better too.
